Where is the Special Place Race?
It's in OUR COMMUNITY. The adventure will weave its way through downtown Palo Alto, in the heart of the San Francisco Peninsula. Registration and Finish-Line party at Palo Alto Masonic Lodge, 461 Florence St., Palo Alto, CA. Free Saturday parking in the structure on Florence St. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
Who can participate in the Special Place Race?
Anyone over the age of 18 can participate. Any business or organization looking for a team-building opportunity should participate. Teams must be comprised of 4 - 6 racers each. An unlimited number of donors can participate in each team. Teams can signup online in early 2012, to watch your donations grow!
Why participate?
Because our community - and many of its children - need your help! All proceeds from the adventure will be donated to Special Place Foundation. The foundation helps individuals with disabilities become as independent as possible, through social, vocational, and life-skills training. Special Place is dedicated to providing a sustainable lifelong urban-farm community, where our friends and family members with disabilities can live in a safe and challenging environment, integrated with the broader community. We are one of the few nonprofits in the nation providing a model for sustainable, integrated housing for people with disabilities. Nearly 80% of children with special needs are not able to move out from home upon turning 18, because there is no appropriate housing.
How can my children participate?
Kids under 18 can raise donations for an adult team. Children accompanied by an adult can attend the "Finish Line Party," from 6 - 9 p.m., with a $10 donation. High school students may serve as volunteers on the day of the event.

Awards will be given as follows:
Community Champion (team raising the most money)
Order of the Golden Carrot (Race First Place - team winning the race on race day)
Hot Foot Award (Race Second Place)
Pathfinders Award (Race Last Place)
The Community Champion team will be immortalized on a tribute wall at the future Special Place Farm!
